Chances are any map you’ve seen has North at the top. Although this all too common compass is the norm now it wasn’t always the case. Once upon a time placing East at the top was the soup deut jour. talk about being turned around.

The 1507 Waldseemüller map, which is first map to depict the word “America” sold for a nice low sum if 10 million dollars. Yes you read that right it’s the 10 million dollar map.
🗺 M𝐚𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝, 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐥𝐝
this whole map craze isn’t a new one. The oldest known map is 16,500 years old and not of the landscape but of the stars.

Paper towns is a practice amongst cartographers where they purposely insert fake towns. They do this in order to tell if anyone commercially copies or plagiarise their work.

The first printed map wasn’t a map by its self but appeared in an atlas in 1472. (Before this they were hand drawn)
