𝐀 𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭? It’s easy to see a map and think, ‘all maps are the same‘ after all the items are fixed landmarks don’t change. Landmarks don’t change, but what we see in them does. Everyone of us interprets our world differently, all of our experiences, struggles, joys are individual to us and only us. It’s those experiences that shape our view of the world.
Cartographers have the monumental task of interpreting the world and drafting it onto 1 piece of paper. The problem is the world is not packaged as such. So what they do is they ask a question then let the map itself be the answer. Just as we are all different so are the questions.
Let’s take a look at the beautiful map shown below and see what questions and answers it can unlock.
